This Vendome Sputnik Period Clip-on Earrings, a part of the mid-century jewelry collection, boasts the distinctive Vendome signature from the 1950s. The earrings feature a black and Aurora Borealis crystals which beautifully change colors when viewed from different light angles. This elegant design was popular during the 1950s and was created by the high-end brand of Coro Jewelers. It was known that retailers carrying Vendome were not allowed to carry Coro and vice versa.
Established in 1901 by Emanuel Cohn and his partner Carl Rosenberger, Coro Jewelers began as a small store in New York City, specializing in jewelry and personal accessories. Despite not being jewelry designers, they eventually became the world's largest manufacturer of costume jewelry. The name "Coro" was formed from the first two letters of each partner's last name. This particular pair of earrings is made of chrome-plated base metal and Austrian crystals, and is in excellent vintage condition.
