American Flyer Model Trains
The American Flyer brand was created by American Flyer Manufacturing and then the AC Gilbert Company today known as the creator of the Erector Set bought the line in the late 1930s.
American Flyer competed head to head with the behemoth Lionel. Wanting to differentiate itself from Lionel developed the S-scale gauge of trains which scaled to 3/16 to the inch and ran on two rails.
AC Gilbert bought the Wrather Corp in the early 1960s and closed its doors in 1966. The American Flyer name brand and all its tooling was sold to who else Lionel and they produce model train sets today under that brand.
GOVintage came across an estate sale in Indiana and purchased a complete set. The following rolling stock is what's left.
GAEX Box Car
AF Caboose
AF 931 Gondola
